Lobaria pulmonaria (tree lungwort) is a leafy lichen which grows high up on trees in Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula and elsewhere. In 2014, I showed a large selection of my Larrabee Suite prints at the Port Angeles Arts Center. While attending the show, I photographed masses of the fallen lichen, impressed by their thick, overlapping layers on the forest duff. Here are some of the prints I made inspired by these lush, but often overlooked, lichen. I enjoy their rhyming scientific name, too.
